ST. LOUIS – A 17-year-old female student was found in the woods, paralyzed, covered with insect bites and near death.

Authorities say she had been there for 30 hours after she was beaten April 27 by a former teacher. After the alleged attack, the suspect, Samson Shelton who is a popular 26-year-old driver’s education teacher and assistant baseball coach, went dancing.

According to police, Shelton and the victim became friends a few months ago and would regularly play basketball together. On the night of the attack, Shelton is suspected of breaking the victim’s neck and trying to strangle her before leaving her for dead.

A motive for the attack has yet to be determined, but it is believed that Shelton and the victim had a relationship.
