HAVERFORD, Pa. – Police arrested eight individuals on charges of distributing drugs in five public and private high schools and three Pennsylvania colleges.
During an investigation, police seized marijuana, cocaine, Ecstasy and several weapons, including a loaded assault rifle and a semiautomatic, The New York Times reports
.
Prosecutors identified Neil K. Scott, 25, and Timothy C. Brooks, 18, as the ringleaders of the extensive drug ring. The suspects are graduates of Haverford School, an affluent private school in Pennsylvania, who returned home after leaving college.
Authorities said Scott told dealers that it was important to keep a constant supply of marijuana in each school because it was difficult to purchase the drug while he was attending Haverford School.
The incident has prompted local school officials to review drug policies and determine whether to increase efforts to educate students on the dangers of drug abuse.
