Police Identify Homeless Woman in Hospital Suicide

Published: January 24, 2011

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police have identified the homeless woman who took her own life in a hospital bathroom. The woman, who had lived with friends after her apartment was affected by a fire, was evicted eight days prior to the incident.

Janice Coradini, 57, moved in with Jan and John Rowberry in 2006 where she resided, rent-free, until Jan. 2011. After John Rowberry passed away, his wife went to court to have Coradini evicted, the Commercial Appeal reports. Coradini began living in a 1973 Mercury Marquis given to her by the Rowberrys.

Later, Coradini allegedly forced her way back into the Rowberrys’ home and threatened Jan Rowberry with a gun. Rowberry ran to neighbor’s house and called the police. Coradini was not charged, as police were unable to locate the weapon.

Rowberry told the news source that she did not know why Coradini was at the hospital on the day of her suicide.
