Police at 3 Arizona Universities to Carry Assault Rifles

MESA, Ariz. – Three Arizona universities have decided to arm their police departments with assault-style rifles.

Arizona State University (ASU) will be the first school to be armed. The other schools, University of Arizona (UA) and Northern Arizona University will follow suit soon after.

Officers at each university will go through training before they use the weapons.

Authorities said the rifles will enable officers to shoot at targets at the end of long hallways or at the top of buildings.
