PLANO, Texas — A teacher was attacked in front of a Plano ISD elementary school on the morning of May 22.

The suspect, 31-year-old Daniel C. Okungbowa, approached the teacher on the sidewalk outside Boggess Elementary School and began asking her questions about her job, CBS reports. When the teacher began walking towards the school, Okungbowa allegedly ran up behind her and grabbed her. The two struggled on the ground where the teacher bit the suspect on the hand.

The victim had injuries to her hand, wrist, and mouth. She was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.

The school was placed in lockdown as police searched for the suspect. Parent Amber Beayrd said about an hour after the school went into lockdown, she got a call from the vice principal.

“She was like, ‘There was an incident at the school where your son may have seen something, and you know, I got to go,’ and that was it,” she said.

When her son got home from school, he told her he was outside during recess and witnessed the attack.

“He knows exactly where it happened, right in front of the school, to the right side of it,” she said. “A teacher was knocked down into the bushes. He said that he saw the guy choking her and a big rush going on before they were rushed inside the school.”

Boggess Elementary released a statement saying the incident did not involve students, but that counseling would be provided for any student who may have witnessed it.
