TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — A series of professional setbacks, including being fired from a New York medical residency in 1999, likely sparked Dr. Anthony Garcia’s anger, which led him to allegedly murder four individuals in Nebraska.
In 2001, Creighton University medical school professors Roger Brumback and William Hunter fired Garcia, 40, from his pathology residency at the school. Police arrested Garcia July 15 for the May murders of Brumback and his wife. Garcia is also a suspect in the 2008 fatal stabbings of Hunter’s 11-year-old son and Hunter’s housekeeper.
The Indianapolis Star reports that prior to his firing from Creighton University, St. Elizabeth Family Practice Residency in Albany, N.Y., terminated Garcia in 1999. In both cases, Garcia’s behavioral issues and outbursts led to his terminations.
Authorities are holding Garcia on suspicion of four counts of first-degree murder and four counts of using a weapon to commit a felony.
