The SlickMat offers a unique spin on lockdown solutions designed to thwart active shooters.

There’s no shortage of solutions for school officials looking to slow down or stop an active attacker the moment an incident begins.

The SlickMat from the Lynn Peavey company falls into that category— but it doesn’t work by helping to barricade classroom doors in the traditional sense.

Instead it relies on a deterrence method that you may be familiar with if you watched cartoons or Home Alone movies as a kid— slipping.

By applying the supplied coating to the mat and sliding it under the door, teachers can take away any traction an attacker would have as they approach the door to their classroom. If the attacker decides to flee the scene, the coating ensures they leave a luminescent trail behind them for first responders.

“Our SlickMat completely immobilizes approaching assailants and barricades your room from even the most determined of criminals,” CEO Doug Peavey says.

The SlickMat is inexpensive, quick to deploy and requires no installation.
