HARRISBURG, Pa. – Former Penn State Assistant Football Coach Mike McQueary testified on Monday that Joe Paterno told him that the school bungled its handling of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse allegations.
McQueary also claimed that Paterno warned him that Penn State officials who try to make him the scapegoat, report USA Today.
McQueary was called to testify so the court could determine if there is enough evidence to try Penn State Former President Graham Spanier, University Vide President Gary Schultz and Athletic Director Tim Curley. All three have been accused of covering up claims that Assistant Football Coach Sandusky was sexually abusing young boys.
Last fall, Sandusky was convicted of sexually abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period. He was sentenced to at least 30 years and perhaps as many as 60 years in prison.
McQueary reported Sandusky’s activities to Penn State officials, who thought the abuse was just “horseplay.” He has now filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the institution.
