New York, New York – Three adults who weren’t allowed to enter their children’s Brooklyn elementary school without showing that they were vaccinated for COVID-19 assaulted a school safety agent on Thursday.
The father, 26-year-old Kijana Harbin, the mother, 26-year-old Tazaine Brooks, and her boyfriend were involved in the altercation, reports the New York Daily News. They arrived at PS 158 around 2 p.m. and brought with them a birthday cake for one of their children.
A lone, 30-year-old school safety agent met them at the campus entrance and asked to see prove that they were vaccinated. The parents, however, went right past her, saying they had already spoken to someone at the school about the matter, reports the Daily News.
When the safety agent tried to stop them, the two men held her down while Brooks hit her. The safety agent was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries, which were minor.
According to the Department of Education’s website, in order to enter a school building, all campus visitors must show proof they’ve received at least one COVID-19 vaccination dose.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), before Harbin, Brooks and her boyfriend came to the school, they were told they could drop off the cake but wouldn’t be allowed on campus due to COVID restrictions.
Harbin was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment, reports WINS. Brooks was also charged with assault, but her boyfriend was not charged.
No students were around or witnessed the alleged attack when it happened. NYPD is investigating the incident.
