Jarrod’s law will no longer be enforced as of Oct. 16, according to the Times Bulletin.
The law was enacted two years ago in response to the 2003 death of 6-year-old Jarrod Bennett. The boy’s skull was fractured when a cafeteria table weighing nearly 300 pounds fell on him.
According to the Times Bulletin, however, the legislation not only addressed cafeteria tables but also set up other, sometimes unrealistic safety requirements that school districts struggled to meet. The costs of the required upgrades were also an issue.
