Officers Placed on Leave for Leaking U. of Utah Gun Policy

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A police officer and security guard from the University of Utah are on paid administrative leave after leaking an internal memo concerning campus gun policy to state lawmakers and gun advocacy groups. The university does not allow weapons to be carried in plain sight on campus.

According to the memo, university police can arrest anyone carrying a gun without a permit. If the carrier has a permit, they much conceal the weapon or leave campus, KSL reports.

Security guard Zachary Wellman told the news source that he believes the protocol violates the right to bear arms. A university group called Students for Concealed Carry leaked the memo online, stating that it was unfair to students who are lawfully carrying.
