JOHNSTOWN, Pa. — A police officer was hospitalized Oct. 23 after a fistfight with a University of Pittsburgh Johnstown student in a campus dormitory.
Matthew Sweeney III was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and other charges, The Tribune-Democrat reports. Police said he attacked and chocked the department’s associate chief, Eric Zangaglia, after the officer approached students in the dorm while one was holding a beer.
When Zangaglia asked Sweeney for identification, Sweeney claimed his wasn’t a student. Zangaglia grabbed Sweeney’s shirt when the student tried to flee; the two fought and Zangaglia used his pepper spray.
