BEDFORD, Texas — An off-duty police officer working at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford subdued a post-surgical patient on Dec. 14 with a TASER. The officer acted to restrain the patient, who had reportedly assaulted two female hospital employees.
The officer used a “drive stun” technique in which the projectiles of the TASER are not fired, McClatchy reports. Jennifer Erickson, a Bedford hospital spokeswoman, told the news source that the officer acted in a manner that he believed was appropriate given the situation.
The name of the patient was not released. An investigation is ongoing, and the patient could face assault charges.
