Off-Duty N.J. Officers Guard Local Schools
Uniformed, off-duty Marlboro (N.J.) Police officers will begin guarding eight public schools to increase security following the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown.
The schools are the first in the state to use armed security. The officers will be used on a “trial basis” for 90 days and will patrol the entrances of the township’s middle and elementary schools, reports the Star-Ledger.
The school has had retired police officers and parent volunteers using computer software to scan visitors’ drivers licenses.
