Nurse Tricked by Kate Middleton Hoax Call Dies
LONDON — A nurse at King Edward VII hospital who fell victim to a prank call by two radio disc jockeys seeking information about pregnant Duchess of Cambridge died, hospital officials reported Friday.
On Tuesday, two Australian radio announcers seeking private information on the duchess’ condition called the hospital impersonating Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles. Nurse Jacintha Saldanha transferred the call to a second nurse who spoke freely about the patient’s acute morning sickness, the Associated Press reports.
Saldanha was found dead early Friday morning in what appears to be a suicide.
Following the incident, hospital officials said they supported how Saldanha handled the call and that the hospital’s phone protocols were under review.
