A North Carolina high school student was shot by a classmate, outside the school, just minutes before classes began on Tuesday, according to a report by ABCnews.com
The shooting happened at Albermarle High School around 7:40 a.m., as two male students argued in a courtyard on campus. Police say one of the students fired two shots then walked into the principals office to wait for police.
Albemarle Police Chief William Halliburton spoke at a press conference where he told the public police had the suspect in custody “immediately.” Twenty officers from several jurisdictions reported to the school within in minutes of the incident.
Halliburton identified the shooting victim as Bernard Miller, 17. Miller was shot in the hip and lower abdomen. There are no details on his condition.
Police say the shooting incident was not part of a larger plot against the school, but a one-on-one confrontation that turned violent.
