Nonstudents Engage in Gunfight at Detroit High School

Three nonstudents were involved in a shooting inside a West side Detroit high school on February 17. At least one, a former student, reportedly sneaked into the building before opening fire on the second floor of the Central High, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Two suspects, a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old, are in custody. The shootout allegedly began after a Central High student got into a fight with a 17-year-old nonstudent. According to officials, the student then called his 19-year-old brother who arrived to help. The parties then exchanged gunfire. The 19-year-old was shot in the groin area and an 18-year-old nonstudent was shot in the leg. Both were temporarily listed in serious condition.
A Detroit Public Schools police officer reported that school security officers had refused entry to one of the nonstudents involved in the shooting; however, that student gained access to the building through another door.
