The Northern Illinois University (NIU) police chief has been cleared after allegations that he threatened the campus newspaper editor were dismissed. Donald Grady, 56, was reinstated to his position on Dec. 11.
No evidence of misconduct or inappropriate actions were found by an independent review panel investigating the allegations, reports the Associated Press. Grady was on paid leave after he was accused of threatening the Northern Star‘s editor-in-chief in October.
Grady was called a hero by many in the campus’ community after he acted quickly during an active shooter situation on campus in 2008. The gunman opened fire in a lecture hall and killed five students. Steven Kazmierczak, the 27-year-old shooter, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
