NEW YORK — The National Football League (NFL) implemented enhanced pat-down security this year, which league officials say isn’t related to the Sept. 11 incident at a New Jersey stadium where a stun gun was sneaked past security.
The enhanced portion of the pat-downs is intended to be performed from the knees to the ankles, CNN reports. The new measure is in accordance with the NFL’s Best Practices policies, according to a press release sent out by the Buffalo Bills.
On Sept. 11 of this year, Leroy T. McKelvey brought a stun gun into MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. during a game between the New York Jets and Dallas Cowboys. He allegedly used the stun gun on three men during a scuffle at a game.
