NEWTOWN, Conn.—The Newtown Public School District is upgrading its on-site security measures with visitor management software developed by Raptor Technologies.

In remembrance of the 2012 tragedy that struck the district, Raptor and the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) jointly sponsored the initial purchase of the Raptor system for the entire district. With the installation of the system, the campuses can now quickly screen visitors, vendors and other entrants against a custom watch list as well as against a national database of registered sex offenders.

“Visitor entry management is key to strengthening school security,” says Mo Canady, NASRO executive director.

Since 2012, Newtown Public School District has continued to enhance its safety measures through exterior and interior security improvements, including adding the presence of a school resource officer in every school.
