New Mexico School District Pays Shooting Victims

The Roswell Independent School District in New Mexico will pay two victims almost $2 million dollars as part of a settlement after a 2014 school shooting.

The Roswell Independent School District in New Mexico settled with two victims of a 2014 school shooting in court May 1.

Insurance carriers for the district will pay almost $2 million to the two victims, who were 12 and 13 at the time of the shooting in Berrendo Middle School on January 12, 2014. The court-approved settlement will pay for medical expenses and other compensatory damages, according to koat.com.

The shooter, a then-twelve year old student at the middle school, pleaded no contest and is in the custody of the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department until he turns 21.
