The Spotswood School District in New Jersey will receive a $9.3 million bond to improve school security after a referendum was passed Nov. 3.
Under the proposal guidelines, an increase in monthly school taxes would provide $6.1 million for the projects, while $3.1 million will be provided by the state and $1.1 million will come from Regular Operating District grants, according to eb.gmnews.com.
The money will fund multiple projects in the district’s four schools.

Superintendent of Schools Scott Rocco says upgrades to the communication systems will be the first thing the district attempts to complete. Rocco says whenever the power goes out the school phones are always the last thing to come back online.
Spotswood High School will receive additional security cameras, upgrades to its telecommunication and HVAC systems and window and roof replacements, among other things. Memorial Middle School will also replace its roof and telecommunication system. The two elementary schools in the district will upgrade their video surveillance systems, fire alarms, ventilation systems and playground surfaces.
