NAPA, Calif. — The administration at Napa Psychiatric Hospital has backed off a plan to require employees to wear personal security devices on lanyards after workers expressed concern that the lanyards could be used to strangle or choke them.
On Aug. 15, a violent patient grabbed a psychiatric technician’s lanyard and tried to choke the employee, KTVU.com reports. The technician was not seriously injured. Now, workers are allowed to clip the security devices to their belts.
The hospital still needs to order belt clips, and they won’t arrived for more than a week. The lanyards will be required until then.
