N.Y. Forms LGBT-Focused PTA Chapter
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — A Parent-Teacher Association chapter designed to address the needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students was approved Thursday. The new organization will fight for stronger anti-bullying measures and for the contributions of gays to be incorporated into curriculums.
The group will be known as a parent-teacher association and will not be associated with any particular school district, the Associated Press reports. Membership with be open to anyone.
The New York state PTA has not received any complaints about admitting the organization and does not expect to, according to President Maria Fletcher.
