MSU Student’s Mouth Stapled in Alleged Anti-Semitic Attack

EAST LANSING, Mich. — A sophomore at Michigan State University was brutally attacked by two men at an off-campus party in what his family claims was a hate crime.

Zachary Tennen was knocked unconscious by two assailants after they reportedly asked him if he was Jewish and chanted “Heil Hitler,” the Indy Star reports. While Tennen was unconscious, his attackers stapled his mouth. Tennen has been involved with the university’s Hillel, a Jewish student community center.

Cindy Hughey, executive director of MSU Hillel, said this was the fourth or fifth serious anti-Semitic incident she had seen in 13 years. MSU released a statement stating that it would work with Tennen while he is recovering to ensure he can fulfill his academic requirements.
