Connection to the Abundant Life Christian School Shooting

Natalie Rupnow, 15, carried out the December 16, 2024, shooting at Abundant Life Christian School. Armed with two handguns, she shot eight people, killing 42-year-old teacher Erin West and 14-year-old student Rubi Vergara. Six others were injured before Rupnow fatally shot herself. Police later identified the weapon she used as a 9mm pistol.

Investigators revealed that Natalie had been linked to online extremist communities that glorify mass shooters. Authorities said it appears a “combination of factors” motivated the deadly school shooting and that “everyone was targeted in this incident.”

Court records highlighted instability in Natalie’s home life, including her parents’ repeated divorces and remarriages. The family’s custody-related struggles prompted her enrollment in therapy.

Additionally, Jeffrey Rupnow, Natalie’s father, is facing legal consequences for allegedly providing the firearms she used. He has been charged with two counts of intentionally giving a dangerous weapon to a minor and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a child.
