JENNINGS, Mo. — The mother of a Jennings Junior High School student, who was allegedly beaten up by a school resource officer (SRO), is planning to file a lawsuit against the school, claiming that school authorities are responsible for her son’s broken hip.
On Sept. 20, 14-year-old Briaonte Fowler was removed from his classroom for being disruptive, and was then handcuffed in the hallway by an SRO, reports KMOV.com. Fowler’s mother, Marquita McDavis, admits that her son has behavioral issues, such as ADHD, and was probably mouthing off to the officer during the incident. However, she alleges that the officer pulled back Fowler’s left leg, popping his hip out of place. McDavis also said that her son could have permanent hip damage, according to KSDK.com.
The SRO has been placed on paid administrative leave while the school district and the Jennings Police investigate the case. District officials said that procedures have been put in place to remove disruptive students from class to restore a comfortable learning environment.
