ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — St. Joseph School District officials are contemplating implementing gun safety courses for students following an incident where a 7-year-old student brought a loaded handgun to school.
On Dec. 17, a Lindbergh Elementary School teacher spotted a student with a loaded handgun. The teacher immediately confiscated the weapon and reported the incident to school administrators who then contacted local police. The child’s father was later arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, St. Joseph News-Press reports.
Before the district begins discussions on gun safety curriculum, officials need to debrief on the incident at Lindbergh. The debriefing is scheduled for January.
