Missouri State U. Bookstore Manager Admits Embezzling $1M

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The former manager of the Missouri State University Bookstore pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $1.1 million from the school’s textbook buyback program.

Mark Bixey, 48, was hired at the bookstore as a clerk in 1991 and promoted to store manager in 2000. Last summer, when Brixey was on vacation, officials discovered $81,000 in cash in his desk. The revelation led to a further investigation, prompting Brixey to resign from his position, KY3.com reports.

Bixey has been charged with wire fraud, money laundering and filing a false income tax return.
