BILOXI, Miss.—The state of Mississippi will enforce a new anti-bullying law that takes effect July 1 and allows bullying victims to fight back against their attackers.
The law will require all teachers and coaches to report any bullying episodes – including off-campus incidents, such as cyberbullying – to school leaders and/or campus officers, according to WLOX.com. Once an incident is reported, principals must investigate each case and take the appropriate disciplinary action.
Moreover, a bullying victim has the right to strike his/her assailant in self defense if the bully assaults the victim.
The law also mandates that all school districts have a policy and procedure that prohibits bullying under all conditions.
School employees who have been bullied by students or co-workers are also protected by the law.
