MOORHEAD, Minn. – A star wrestling athlete at Minnesota State University, Moorhead has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct for allegedly raping an 18-year-old student in his dorm room.
Angel M. Vega, 23, was playing drinking games with his roommate and two young women in Grantham Hall on Sept. 1 when the incident occurred. Vega allegedly gave one of the women, an 18-year-old student, Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, despite the fact that she was underage, Star Tribune reports.
Witnesses said that Vega told them they could “see something crazy” and showed them the intoxicated, topless girl on a lounge couch. They also said he dragged her back to his dorm room, saying he intended to have sex with her, prompting fellow students to contact floor security.
Police and ambulance arrived at Grantham Hall around 11:15 p.m. on Sept. 1, in response to the call. At the scene, they saw two men in their third-floor room, a woman on a bed vomiting and another woman unconscious.
Vega denied having sex with the woman, claiming that the two were in the lounge making out.
However, authorities later found Vega’s cell phone in his room and discovered a photo of the partly undressed woman in the lounge. The phone also had a video showing Vega forcing the intoxicated girl to have oral sex and intercourse.
Vega denied recording any sexual activity.
The athlete has also been charged with providing alcohol to a minor. He has also been suspended from the wrestling program, pending the outcome of a school administration review.
