STILLWATER, Minn. – The Stillwater Area Schools board approved spending nearly $2 million to upgrade security at Andersen Elementary and Oak Park Elementary.
The district will spend $937,549 to improve security at Andersen Elementary and $938,276 to upgrade solutions at Oak Park Elementary, Stillwater Gazette reports.
As part of the upgrades, the district will reconfigure officers to make school buildings less accessible to would-be intruders.
Additionally, schools will install new communications and cameras to monitor visitors to the building. Administrators will thus be able to see and identify individuals coming into the building before unlocking the front doors.
Funding for the projects will come from the school security portion of a levy that was approved by voters in November 2013.
