VAIL, Colo. — The Vail Valley Medical Center recently incorporated the Hugs Infant Protection Service into its security to better protect infants at the hospital. A small device, which is placed on each infant’s ankle, will set off an alarm if the child is taken outside of a designated area.
The device, which weighs one-third of an ounce, is tamper-proof, waterproof, reusable and non-allergenic, the Vail Daily reports. Hospital officials consulted Tony York, the senior vice president of Hospital Shared Services, Security Division, prior to choosing the system.
The hospital already has an established infant security program, which includes safety education for parents and staff as well as regular infant abduction drills, and video surveillance and access control.
