Records of 1.7 Million People Stolen from N.Y. Hospitals
NEW YORK — The personal and medical records of 1.7 million people were stolen after a vehicle belonging to GRM Information Management Services was left unlocked in Manhattan. The names, addresses and Social Security numbers of patients, staff members, contractors and vendors from Jacobi Medical Center, North Central Bronx Hospital and two clinics were taken.
Those affected by the theft received notification letters and an information hot line and customer care centers were established, Pioneers reports. Free credit monitoring and fraud detection services were also made available to the victims.
The hospitals’ corporation intends to file a lawsuit against GRM Information Management Services.
