A man died while being arrested by a Greensboro police officer on Dec. 21 after he violated his ban from Wesley Long Hospital. Earlier on the same night, he was barred from entering the facility after becoming disruptive while seeking medical attention.

North Carolina’s State Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of Steve Christian, 60. Officer D.J. Williams, who placed Christian in handcuffs after he attempted to enter the hospital, has been placed on administrative leave, the News & Record reports.

Christian came into the emergency department around 1 a.m. and became combative toward medical staff. Williams issued Christian two citations and ordered him off the property, but Christian returned.

Williams handcuffed Christian, and the man became unresponsive. Hospital staff were unable to revive him.
