PHOENIX – After giving a nurse his suicide note, a 28-year-old man shot himself in the head in the emergency room of John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital May 13.

Immediately after receiving the note, the nurse noticed the shooter had a gun in his holster, so she contacted security. As a police officer approached the man, he shot himself in the head,, reports AZCentral.com.

The man, who remains hospitalized, is suspected of shooting his 24-year-old ex-boyfriend at an off-site juice shop about 15 minutes before he entered the ER. The victim is expected to survive the attack.

The incident has prompted hospital officials to review their campus’ security. Until last year, off-duty Phoenix police officers helped supplement hospital security personnel.
