Man Faces Attempted Murder Charge for Spitting on Hospital Employee

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A man with hepatitis C was charged with attempted murder on Jan. 18 for spitting on a hospital worker. Hospital officials say the man, who was under suicide watch at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer, is mentally unstable.

Andre LaFrance, 29, intentionally spat on an employee of the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center on Jan. 17, The Washington Post reports. Authorities had been cautious of LaFrance’s behavior, usually asking him to step to the back of his cell before dealing with him.

LaFrance, who has a lengthy criminal history, was also charged with harassment.
