Man Dies After Being Tased by Hospital Security Officer

LOGAN, Utah – Authorities are investigating the death of a man after a police officer and hospital security officer both used a Taser on him in two separate incidents.

Logan Chief of Police Gary Jensen released the following statement regarding the incident:

“On Thursday, January 17, 2013, at approximately 1930 hours, Logan City Police Department responded to a report of a male subject screaming and acting strange. Upon arrival, Officers met a 49 year old male. The subject was yelling at Satan and would not calm down or comply with officers reasoning or orders. The subject reached inside a doorway stating he was getting a gun and refused to show his hands. Officers deployed a Taser, allowing them to take him safely into custody. Logan City Fire Department Paramedics were on standby and were summoned to the scene to see to the subjects medical needs. The subject was transported via ambulance to the Logan Regional Hospital. later he calmed down was interviewed and ultimately cited for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and released at the hospital.

“Approximately 3 hours later, Logan Police were dispatched to Logan Regional Hospital on a dispatch complaint of Logan Regional Hospital Security fighting with a combative patient. The subject fought with Hospital Security and was tased by Hospital Security. Upon Officer arrival, the combative patient was in full cardiac arrest and was being attended to by Logan Regional Hospital Medical Staff. Although Life saving efforts were attempted, the attempt was unsuccessful.

The investigation will be conducted by Weber County Attorney Dee Smith, reports HJ News.
