Man Arrested After He Wouldn’t Leave Sick Husband’s Hospital Room
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. – A man was ordered off of the property of Research Medical Center on Tuesday and then arrested by police when he refused to leave the bedside of his sick partner.
Roger Gorley claims that the nurse refused to acknowledge his and his husband’s gay partnership or verify that they share a joint power of attorney, reports Fox4KC.com. The couple has been in a civil union for nearly five years.
The hospital, however, is claiming that bad behavior, not sexual orientation was the reason for Gorley being asked to leave. He was also arrested for disorderly conduct and trespassing.
Newsnet5.com is reporting that the incident involved the patient’s brother and Gorley. The brother wanted to make medical decisions for the patient. The brother is now receiving death threats even though he said “I love Roger like I do my brother … it’s heart-wrenching for me to see my brother’s husband being taken away.”
