Man, 52, Arrested Near UCLA Had More Than 10,000 Rounds of Ammunition

WESTWOOD, Calif. – A 52-year-old man was arrested near the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Aug. 29 for firing shots near the campus and making anti-government statements. Additionally, the suspect had more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition.

Gene Carlton Bush was discovered around 11:50 p.m. by the UCLA Police Department after receiving reports of a shooting near the edge of the campus. Witnesses said Bush fired three shots at a traffic light.

When police arrived at the scene and ordered Bush to the ground, he refused. Two officers had to train their weapons at the suspect, while another officer had to use a Taser to incapacitate him.

Officials discovered more than 400 rounds of ammunition on Bush and in a suitcase in his possession. In addition, police found 7,800 rounds of ammunition in his van, along with five loaded semi-automatic pistols with laser sights and several loaded ammunition magazines.

The suspect has no criminal history; however, he is being held without bail. He was scheduled to make an appearance at the Los Angeles Superior Court Sept. 3.
