Los Angeles Police Investigate Latest Hospital “Homeless Dumping”

Published: February 11, 2007

LOS ANGELES – A paraplegic homeless man was found crawling the streets of Skid Row after witnesses claim to have seen a hospital van drop him off in only a medical gown with his broken colostomy bag.

The practice known as “homeless dumping” is being traced back to Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center from witness information. As outlined in a previous CS report of a hospital homeless dumping last year in nearby Bellflower, city officials say the practice is actually quite common. The first indictment for last year’s incident was filed against Kaiser Permanente only three month ago.

A previous accusation of homeless dumping against and refuted by Hollywood Presbyterian occurred in 2005. Representatives for the hospital would not confirm or deny the hospital’s involvement in this latest incident, but will cooperate with city officials in the investigation.
