List of Personal Information of Entire College Student Body Disappears

GARDEN CITY, NY. – A master list containing students’ personal information, including Social Security numbers, addresses and phone numbers, disappeared from Nassau Community College’s student activities office on Nov. 28.

An administrative assistant was using the list to cross-reference all the students involved in school activities with the 21,000 students registered at the college. When the assistant returned to her desk after briefly leaving it for 10 minutes, the printout was gone.

The school immediately alerted various law enforcement authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security and the Nassau County Police Department, about the apparent theft. It has also offered to pay for credit monitoring services for the entire student body for one year.
