Los Angeles — Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) officials have referred 604 cases of teacher misconduct to state authorities to determine if those teachers’ licenses should be revoked. Of those cases, 60 included accusations of sexual misconduct.
The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing will investigate 366 of the 604 cases, CNN reports. The cases include teachers who were disciplined or were about to face discipline since July 2008. In some of those cases, the teachers were fired or left LAUSD, and the district is unaware if those teachers are now employed by other districts.
The move was prompted by scandals at Miramonte Elementary School, in which two teachers were charged with performing lewd acts on students.
