LAUSD to Alert Parents to Teacher Misconduct Within 72 Hours

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) will alert parents within 72 hours if a teacher is removed on allegations of sexual misconduct, officials announced Friday.

The only exception to the policy would occur if police instruct LAUSD to wait to disclose the information, CNN reports. The policy was created in response to recent complaints by parents who were not informed for months that Miramonte Elementary teacher Mark Berndt was accused of sexually abusing 23 students.

The policy was adopted Thursday.
