NEW ORLEANS — The Recovery School District (RSD) acknowledged that its schools have been too quick to expel students. In response, RSD has issued a list of offenses that are punishable by expulsion.
The district is also developing a detailed list of procedures for admitting and readmitting students after expulsion, The Times-Picayune reports. In addition, officials are working to clearly outline when parents should take their complaints against their child’s school to the school itself, to one of the district’s parent centers or to the district central office.
RSD officials will go over the changes at a pair of citywide meetings this Wednesday and on July 25.
