KENT, Ohio – A Kent State University freshman faces a concealed weapon charge after he prompted a two-hour lockdown on the campus when he shot himself in the hand during a domestic dispute on Wednesday.
The suspect, Quavaugntay Tyler, 24, only fired once during a dispute with two female students. Police are investigating what prompted Tyler to fire the weapon, the Associated Press reports.
After the incident, the suspect fled to a residence hall and asked a friend to hide the gun before he went to the hospital. The weapon was found and the friend was not charged.
Tyler, who has been the subject of a campus theft investigation, told authorities that he carried the weapon because he had previously been a victim of armed robbery.
