Judge Dismisses 2nd Claim Filed by Former EMU President
YPSILANTI, Mich. – A judge dismissed a claim by former Eastern Michigan University (EMU) president that his July 2007 firing was a violation of Michigan’s Whistleblower Protection Act.
John Fallon was fired from his position after the December 2006 death of student Laura Dickinson. The incident was controversial because campus officials did not reveal that the death was being investigated as a rape or a murder until a suspect was arrested two months later.
Fallon maintains that he was unaware that Dickinson’s death was being investigated as a murder until a suspect was arrested.
Additionally, Fallon filed a lawsuit against the EMU board of regents citing that Chairman Thomas Sidlik intentionally inflicted emotional distress upon him. However, earlier in October, a judge dismissed Fallon’s claims.
Public Safety Director Cindy Hall and Vice President for Student Affairs Jim Vick were also terminated as a result of the incident.
Officials at EMU said they hope Fallon refrains from any more legal challenges.
