LAS VEGAS — A computer threat analyst demonstrated at DefCon how easy it is to wirelessly take control of an insulin pump. These pumps — as well as pace makers and other medical devices — need software defense to protect the lives of patients who use them.
Jerome “Jay” Radcliffe, who was diagnosed with diabetes 11 years ago, recently discovered his insulin could be hacked, AFP reports. He used his software skills to remotely change the dosage and even turn the device off.
Medical devices with wireless connectivity are vulnerable to cyberattacks, just like smartphones or laptops.
