Hospital Murder Suspect Sentenced to Maximum Security Mental Facility

COLUMBIA, Mo.— The suspect in a beating death at Truman Veterans’ Hospital was sentenced to a maximum security mental facility at the Fulton State hospital, ConnectMidMissouri.com reports.

Boone County Prosecutor Dan Knight accepted his insanity plea by reason of mental disease or defect after doctors diagnosed Rudy Perez Jr. of Sedalia with schizophrenia.

Knight said accepting the plea was his only option because of the facts in the case and Missouri law.
