Going to the Dogs: Hospital Introduces Canine Patrols

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital has introduced two canines to its security force. The dogs work 40-hour shifts at the facility with their handlers.

Delta and Bones, both German Shepherds, have also acted as moral boosters for many patients, the Indy Star reports.

Polly H. Hix donated approximately $400,000 for the three-year pilot program. The donation will help pay for the dogs – which cost more than $10,000 – and their handlers, as well as other costs.
